Hi there gardeners,

Just a quick note to let you know that our weekly Garden Gatherings have changed the time we get together to do some pottering and socialising during the warmer weather.

As of this Saturday, 7th January, we will gather from 3pm to 5pm every Saturday.

'More time in the garden' is a fabulous New Year's resolution! Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

kindest regards,

Manjimup Community Garden Update

Please join us for a celebratory Christmas gathering on Saturday.

Dear Gardeners,

Our weekly Garden Gatherings are continuing over the Christmas - New Year period, every Saturday.

1pm - 3pm on both Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.

On Christmas Eve we invite you to come along with a plate to share as we celebrate the year that was. The Manjimup Community Garden, after a long period of dormancy, sprung back to life at the beginning of this year and has enjoyed many successes over the course of only 12 months. If you haven't seen the garden lately, you should!

Take a moment out from your busy festive-season schedule and come relax in the Garden on Saturday. You could probably use a breather ;-)

We really look forward to seeing you there.

Merry Christmas!

From the MCG Volunteers

Manjimup Community Garden Update!

16/11/2016

Comments

Hi Gardeners,

Welcome to our latest news.

SPANNER IN THE WORKS - MEN'S HEALTH EVENT - THURSDAY 10 NOVEMBER
The Manjimup Community Garden is proud to be supporting this men's health event, to be held at the Manjimup Men's Shed tomorrow from 10am to 3pm.

Come along and enjoy some soup and sandwiches prepared by MCG volunteers. Event details are attached.

HALF PRICE GARDEN MEMBERSHIP - 21 DAYS LEFT
There are only three weeks remaining on our special Spring offer for half-price MCG memberships - that's only $10 for a year's worth of full membership benefits.

Get your hands on a membership form and return it ASAP. Details and forms can be easily downloaded from the Manjimup Community Resource Centre website (www.manjimup.crc.net.au/manjimup-community-garden) and are also attached.

GARDEN GATHERINGS KEEP GATHERING MOMENTUM
Come along on Saturday (1pm to 3pm) for our weekly garden gathering. Our garden has been showing some wonderful growth and new faces are always welcome to come and say hi.

IMPORTANT! PARKING INSIDE THE TIMBER PARK IS NOT PERMITTED
Garden members have been occasionally parking vehicles inside the Timber Park while attending the garden. Please be advised this is now strictly prohibited. The parking of vehicles inside the Park is presenting a threat to Timber Park worker and visitor safety and may interfere with 'revitalisation' works being undertaken in the Park.

Members are permitted to enter the gate in a vehicle for picking up and dropping off MCG equipment or supplies only. Vehicles may be parked outside the gate on Giblett Street. If vehicles are found to be parked inside the gate we may have our rights of vehicle access removed entirely. We thank you in advance for your cooperation with this.

Keep gardening,

Community Garden ~ Can you volunteer an hour to two for a Newsagency Raffle Stall on Friday 2 September?

25/8/2016

Comments

Hi Gardeners,

Raffle Stall Volunteers - Friday 2 September
We are hoping to run a fundraising raffle at the Manjimup Newsagency to raise funds for a NEW STORAGE SHED. If you can spare an hour or two, please register your willingness to help by replying to this email, along with your phone number and preferred time of day to lend a hand. All offers of assistance are appreciated.

Need volunteer to collect 4 wood pallets from Mitre 10 Manjimup
Mitre 10 Manjimup have donated 4 wooden pallets to the Garden so we can increase the number of compost bays. We need a ute or trailer to collect them and deliver them to the Garden. Please contact me if you think you can help and I'll give you more details. (BTW, we are still chasing 8 star pickets. Even if you have just one to donate, please let me know)

The pallets to be collected are square and double sided, like the one that Deb is leaning on in this photo.

Thank You, Stellar Violets, for our new quince trees
A quick shout-out to Lucinda Giblett of the Stellar Violets Life Library, Living Museum and Gallery for recently donating four quince trees to the garden. They were planted last Saturday and are expected to spring to life with new growth soon. We should have enough quince to make quince paste by next Autumn. Mmmmmm, yummy.

Welcome to the garden, Manjimup Education Support Centre (MESC)
We are thrilled to have had some seed packets adopted by the students at MESC. They have a hot-house at the school and will be raising seedlings for us, to be planted in the Garden later in Spring. Thank you for your support kids, we look forward to growing good food together.

Weekly Garden Gathering - This Saturday 1pm - 3pm
Just a reminder about our weekly gatherings. Yes, we have been gathering every week even when it's been wet and truly horrible outside. Believe it or not, it's still lots of fun regardless the conditions. Check out our Facebook page for some of the things we've been up to.

We still have seed packets for adoption. There is parking on Giblett Street and an entrance gate right near the Garden. If you're attending this week, we could use a shovel and wheelbarrow or two to help finish off mulching our pathways.

Happy gardening everyone!

Hi gardeners,

ADOPT A PACKET OF SEEDS
Thanks to the generosity of the Manjimup Mitre 10 Garden Centre, we have been furnished with a range of old plant seeds. We are looking for volunteers to adopt a packet or two and get seedlings going at home ready for spring planting in the Community Garden. Here's a picture:

If you're interested come along to the Garden Gathering on Saturday (1-3pm) and pick out your babies.

LOOKING FOR DONATIONS - compost bay construction
We we like to double the capacity of our compost bays and are looking for some basic materials you may have lying around at home.
  • Star pickets (we need 8 in total)
  • Wood pallets (we need 4 in total)
  • LARGE plastic buckets, with lids (we would like at least 2)

If you have any of these things to donate, it would be great if you could drop them off during tomorrow's Garden Gathering (otherwise contact me and we can work something out).

There is so much more news! But I'm short on time at the minute so I'll have to put together a bit of a newsletter next week.

Happy gardening everyone.

What is a community garden?

1/8/2016

Comments

Welcome to the exciting, diverse and dynamic world of Western Australia’s community gardens

“Community gardens are places where people come together to grow food and community”1. These outdoor environments nurture community connectedness, outdoor learning and sharing of skills to grow stronger communities. Community gardens provide productive, high quality, creative and  accessible open spaces in local communities and deliver a range of benefits in physical and nutritional health, mental health and wellbeing, environmental sustainability, food security, social inclusion, education and training, economic development, cultural vitality and community resilience.

More and more communities and organisations across Western Australia are recognising the enormous potential for community gardens to be sustainable venues for local community development. Whatever your interests or expertise, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in this energetic and innovative sector.

Just as community gardens bring people together and encourage the sharing of ideas and skills, this website aims to connect individuals, organisations and groups interested in gardens and to share information and inspiration to support the development of vibrant and viable community gardens across Western Australia.

Manjimup Community Garden ~ Operation Wet Feet

1/8/2016

Comments

Operation Wet Feet was executed today, successfully rescuing two citrus trees from certain death! The Garden Guerrillas risked blustery conditions to lift them to higher ground putting themselves at great risk of muddying up their clothes. The wounded trees were treated with dressings of nutritious compost and are expected to make a full recovery. Well done, community garden heroes! Excited by this action? You too can join the fun every Saturday from 1 to 3pm.
