Only working smoke alarms save lives!
After 10 years, smoke alarms may not operate effectively and should be replaced every 10 years. All smoke alarms have an expiry date and the date can be located on the smoke alarm itself. If you can’t find a date and you do not know when the alarm was installed, it may be time to replace it. Contact the manufacturer or supplier if you are not sure of the age of your smoke alarm. Mains powered (hard wired) smoke alarms need to be replaced by a licensed electrician. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services recommends replacing your smoke alarm with a photoelectric smoke alarm, designed with superior technology in providing early warning in a residential house fire.
