A new and improved website has launched for DFES’ fire and natural hazard school resources including Bushfire Patrol. The webpage contains a suite of educational materials, including classroom lesson plans, teaching resources and interactive activities on fire, natural hazards, safety and emergency prevention for school-aged children. A new Kids page provides young children with easy access to our interactive Bushfire Patrol games, the Be Safe Around Water App and new colouring in pages. The webpage is designed for primary school teachers and support staff, school-aged children from pre-school through to Year 12 and parents of school children. Career fire fighters and volunteers are also welcome to access the site and will find it much easier to navigate than the previous webpage. All resources are evidence-based, drawing on present research and practice in the field of disaster and resilience education. DFES actively participates in the Disaster Resilient Australia New Zealand Schools Education Network (DRANZSEN) and has developed a five year School Aged Education Strategy in consultation with researchers, DFES operational staff and leaders within the WA education sector.
